Place Of Reflection, Kings Park
Contractor - Plan E Landscape Architects
2009 - 2010
Whilst employed at Plan E Landscape Architects, I was tasked to design a new pavilion behalf of a consortium of charities to provide a place of commemoration and healing for people coping with loss in everyday life.
Located at the a secluded section the Botanic gardens in Kings Park, the main pavilion is designed to be approached indirectly through a serpentine path that guides the visitor through words of support laid into the ground. Seating niches along the way provide places to sit back and take in view filtered by trees to the architectural elements and scenery beyond.
The path leads to two walkways that extend through filigree cut metal portals to offer private areas of seating for small quiet gathering and contemplation.
Finally the main pavilion opens up to views of the Canning River. This pavilion has become a perennially popular venue of memorials, weddings and gatherings where people come together to celebrate and commemorate.
